The History of J.Ducharme Store

In 1970, Jacques Ducharme worked at the store in front of his parents’ house. Five years later, new owners took over and Jacques became a grocery store clerk and butcher. He returned to school in 1979 to study the various cuts of meat. However, a few months later the store was nearing bankruptcy. That’s when Jacques and his wife decided to use their savings to purchase the store. At first, they were the only employees but soon hired someone to help. In 1995, the store was expanded by 720 square feet, improving the butcher’s counter, the fruits and vegetables section, and the entrance. But things took a turn for the worse when in 1996 sales dropped by 40%. The store was on the verge of closing. Fortunately, they received financial support and were able to keep the store open. Since then, Jacques and his wife have had three kids who practically grew up in the store. In fact, their daughter Catherine is now the manager.
